Converting Assets Between Forza Titles

Use the batch conversion tool to move car scene assets between game versions — and what currently works.

12 min read

The Conversion Tool batch converts car scene assets between game versions. Cross-game support is a work in progress and results vary by title pair.

What is known to work

Community members have reported successfully converting parts from FM6 to FH5 — for example, body parts from a car swapped across.

The Carbin editor also supports cross-game work directly, including FH6 material index hash IDs added in v0.9.1.9, and additional material hash string matching added in v0.9.2.0.

Known rough edges

WARNING

FH5 to FH6 wheel conversion has a reported bug where wheels disappear after one use of the convert function. This was raised in the Discord and acknowledged by the tool author; treat wheel conversion as unreliable and keep backups.

Saving FH6 models had suspected issues around infinite loading, and several FH6-specific fixes landed across v0.9.1.9 and v0.9.2.0. Make sure you are on v0.9.2.2 before diagnosing a conversion problem.

Practical advice

  1. Convert one part at a time and test in-game before batching more.
  2. Keep the original ZIP untouched so you can revert.
  3. Install through MediaPC rather than overwriting base files — see Installing your edits into the game.

NOTE

Because conversion support is actively changing, the safest source of truth is the changelog attached to each release. If something behaves differently from this guide, the release notes win.
